For parents of an overweight or obese child, beginning and sticking to an exercise program can be a difficult task. Roughly half of the people who start an exercise program give it up within the first six months - even those who pick walking as their exercise. Surprising considering that most adults and children can and do walk to get around.
Two tips can help you - and your kids - get started and remain committed to a walking program.
Set a goal. Choose to walk for a cause or to raise money for something that’s important to you and your community. Goals are motivating and help you maintain focus. Goal setting functions as a key element proving self-determination theory - physical activity for improved health being an overall benefit. If it’s an annual event be the first to pledge participation which will help you maintain motivation all year.
Pick a partner. By enlisting someone to join you as you train for a walkathon, you wind up supporting each other. The likelihood that you will complete the necessary steps to reach your goal is increased.
Diet coaching tips can help you and your overweight, obese child or teenage obesity sufferer.
