For the obese child or junk food lover snack food giant, Hostess, has recently introduced 100 calorie packs of three tiny cupcakes. It’s being marketed as portion-controlled convenience.

The good news is that as consumers we are being heard. Consumers are trying to reduce excess calories and food manufacturers are beginning to take notice. From a marketing standpoint, the food manufacturers are trying to turn a consumer desire into a profit center.

The bad news for parents, especially parents of overweight and obese children who may or may not be challenged by ADD, ADHD, Asthma, Autism, Sleep Apnea, and so forth, is that there is a strong likelihood that by continuing to eat foods such as doughnuts and toaster tarts you and your children will continue to crave them, even if they are portion controlled. Processed snack foods create a release of hormones that likely are a big part of the physical reasons for the continued desire to eat them.

One of the most reliable ways to stop the cravings for these foods according to Nutritionist Mattie Mola, NJ based International Diet Coaching Center,  is to first stop buying them and second, stop eating them. This also paves the way for offering foods that are nutritious, delicious and build strong immune systems which the obese child often lacks.
